ABOUT THE CAPE FEAR FLYERS
The Cape Fear Flyers are an organization that competes in the USATF Junior Olympic division. The Flyers field a cross country team in the fall, and a track & field team in the spring/ summer. The club traces its roots to the (1990’s); and was re-started last year by a former athlete. Our mission is to provide area youth from the ages of 6 to 18 a safe, competitive, and affordable environment to participate athletically. We also help children build self-esteem, encourage them to develop accountability, establish and work towards goals, and support teammates on and off the athletic fields. As an organization, the Flyer’s Club strives to continually improve the health and fitness of all our members through education and by personal example. Our coaches are life-long athletes. In our first year of competition, we qualified 27 athletes for the Cross Country National Championship, and 5 athletes for the Track and Field National Championship.
SCHOLARSHIPS and FINANCIAL NEED
We believe that all girls and boys should have the opportunity to participate in The Cape Fear Flyers program regardless of ability to pay. Scholarships are very important- especially to young girls and boys who have restricted opportunities for positive development experiences outside their school setting. The average cost to provide the Cape Fear Flyer programs is $175.00 per child, and if granted a scholarship, a child will pay $0.00. To provide this scholarship award, we rely on individual gifts/sponsorships and grants to subsidize the difference.

“My son loved every minute of Flyers track and field. He signed up because he wanted to stay in shape during the summer but what he received was much greater. He loved the relationships he made with not only the coaches and other Flyer kids but also with other young athletes all over the state at other meets. He also discovered a hidden talent in the shot put that drove him all the way to Junior Olympic Nationals. He learned that working hard can be fun and leads to measurable improvement. What an exciting and rewarding summer it has been for him and our family! Thank you Cape Fear Flyers!”
